"I grew up without a mother and I listened to music to nurture my soul"

NEW York-based singer A'mari is in Jamaica promoting her new single Vacation which is produced by the Phantom Fireworks Label. Vacation is the first single from A'Mari's soon-to-be-released EP. Other tracks include Destiny, Magic and Set My Heart Free. Originally from St Andrew,  A'mari grew up in Guys Hill,  St Mary. She migrated to New York City in her teens, after which she spent some time in Florida before resettling in the Big Apple. "I grew up without a mother and I listened to music to nurture my soul. I wrote my first song Ghetto Child when I was about 10-years-old. I recorded it at Dynamic Sounds when I was about 14," A'mari recalled. Born Veneice Fung-Chung, she became DJ Mona Lisa when she embarked on a career in radio broadcasting, doing stints at WNWK 105.9 FM in New York, New Jersey's WNJR and WAXY. An advocate for victims of child molestation, A 'mari travels across the United States for lectures.

When she was younger, singer A'mari was the victim of abuse and molestation. Now an adult, she has decided to use her experiences to inspire and motivate others. "I've been an advocate for children who have been molested and raped. I travel across the United States to lecture and give advice to the abused," A'mari shared. "I was a victim of such circumstances and I know what it is like. Whenever I get a chance I speak about it but I try to be there for persons who have had a similar experience." Originally from St. Andrew, she grew up in Guy's Hill, St Mary. She relocated to New York during her late teens before moving to Florida. She then resettled in New York. "I grew up without a mother and I listened to music to nurture my soul. I wrote my first song Ghetto Child when I was about 10. I recorded it at Dynamic Sounds when I was about 14," A'mari said. The Brooklyn, New York-based artiste, who is a former radio jock, has been in Jamaica over the past few weeks promoting her music.
